Conservative Cat Troubles Labour Leader
Jeremy Corbyn calls to his cat: "Buenos dias, El Gato."
The black and white feline does not respond. The British Labour leader whistles. The tune is Tie a Yellow Ribbon Around the Old Oak Tree. Cats do not answer to their names he knows, especially a generic name like El Gato, Spanish for simply "The Cat."
Jeremy Corbyn is worried. So is his wife. They fear the worst. El Gato, a creature who shares their house, their food, their very living space, does not share their values. You see, El Gato might be a Tory.
How does Jeremy know? "Disappointing individualism," he says, describing the cat's conservative disposition. El Gato displays "a lack of concern for others."
This scandal all came to light when a voter asked about the cat's politics: "Is he in favour of your democratic socialism or does he prefer Chairman Miaow?"
But lately, El Gato perhaps is beginning to see the light. He has permitted, perhaps even invited, a neighbourhood stray to share his dish of food. "I've detected a gentler kind of politics coming out of El Gate," says Corbyn.
And, in that, their is hope for us all.
