The Past Is Never Closed

Crime fiction is a vast field, ranging from Golden Age reprints and ‘cosies’ at one end to the most noir and sadistic of contemporary thrillers. In The Past Is Never Closed, I’ve tried to write a book that’s credible, gripping, dharmic and deeply satisfying. In brief, it goes something like this…

Jonah West meets a woman at a party and takes her back to his flat. She complains of a headache, he goes out to get painkillers - and when he returns, something inexplicable has happened. But is it as inexplicable as it seems?

Very quickly, Jonah becomes an object of interest to the police - and when they discover that the same thing has happened to him before, precisely one year ago, their interest deepens.

With the net tightening around him, Jonah needs to find answers. Who is trying to frame him, and why? What has become of the one person who might be able to vouch for him, the beautiful girl in the flat below? And is he himself to be trusted?

Set in contemporary London, THE PAST IS NEVER CLOSED is at once an exceptionally well-crafted whodunit and a satisfying story of love, guilt and redemption.
